Social Groups

We have many social groups whose primary interest is to CONNECT church members with each other usually during a meal followed by an activity designed to get better acquainted via discussion on a variety of topics.  Our social groups currently include:

The Gillespie Group
Purpose:  This group meets to share life experiences and encourage each other to live a Christ
like life.  The group holds up the three simple rules of John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist
Church: Do no harm, Do good, Love God.
        Meeting time:  Sunday, 6:30-7:30
        Leader:  Dave & Nancy Gillespie
United Methodist Men (UMM)
Purpose:  UMM meet monthly and provides the men of the church an opportunity for Christian fellowship, and
service to the church and the community.  In addition we sponsor youth programs.  We are the
charter organization for a Boy Scout troop and a Cub Scout pack.   We are also members of the
National Organization of United Methodist Men.
Meeting time:  3rd Tuesday of month, 6-8pm in the church lower level.
        Leader:  Dave Gillespie

United Methodist Women (UMW)
Purpose:  The UMW is an active group of women in the church who work together to provide programs of
interest to women in the community.  They intentionally support mission projects specific to
"Women helping Women" locally and globally.  They emphasize Christian values as they make
Christmas Stockings for Atlantic Street Service Center, crochet hats for Head Start Children, and
knit prayer shawls for those in need of comfort.  They plan the annual Christmas Buffet for church
and community.  New members are always welcome to join this supportive community of women.
        Meeting time:  <day, hours, location>
        Leader:  Dianne Rogerson

Early Readers
Purpose:  This book reading club is composed of Christians who like to get up early. They typically read
one fiction or non-fiction book a month and then meet to discuss it over a light continental
                            breakfast.
Meeting time:  Sept thru June, 8:30-10:30am, 1st Tuesday of the month in members homes
        Leader:  Sarah Jane Hisey

Saturday Potluck Discussion Groups
Purpose: Single adults and couples are welcome to attend these groups. The groups meet at members
homes or the church on a selected Saturday night of each month except July and August. The
planned pot-luck suppers are followed by lively discussion on topics of interest to the group.
Members share responsibility for hosting and leading the discussion in a safe and loving
envrionment. Those interested are encouraged to make a one year commitment to this small group
                       ministry.
Meeting time: Selected Saturday of each month at dinner time in members homes and/or church setting.
Leader: Sharon Feucht (coordinator) – Contact the church office if you would like to participate in this small
                      group ministry
